Katharine Trousers in grey flannel and burgundy flannel by Vivien of Holloway
Katharine Trousers are a staple in my wardrobe and were the first reproduction 1940s garment I bought. Katharines are designed to be very generous in the hip and nipped in tight at the waist to create a stunningly curvy silhouette, even on my scrawny frame.
I wasn’t sure about the fit when I purchased my first pair in charcoal flannel, as despite the instructions saying to measure your waist cinched, I was worried about the non-stretch fabric. I had a small waist to hip ratio, and in the end I bought a pair fitting my natural non-cinched waist size (26″ for reference), and moved the buttons in to create a more accurate silhouette. When I purchased my next pair I followed the instructions and opted for the size fitting my cinched waist (24″), and they fit like an absolute dream.
The flannel Katharines keep me nice and warm during our Melbourne winter, and I normally wear them with thigh-high woollen socks for added warmth and comfort. The flannel can be a little scratchy compared to the other fabric options in summer, but this hasn’t bothered me or my Fibromyalgia much at all.
Katharine Trousers are available in a range of different fabric options. I also have a pair in a wool blend and a pair in a ‘soft’ lightweight fabric, which I have included as separate garments in this wardrobe gallery. If you’re looking at purchasing Katharines in the soft or wool blend, go check them out!
I purchase my Katharine Trousers through Shop At Christine’s, which is owned and run by Vivien’s lovely sister Christine. She is our very own Australian home for all things Vivien of Holloway, so if you’re in Australia or New Zealand be sure to visit her website or get in touch with her on Instagram to source your dream VoH pieces! You can also participate in pre-orders via Christine, which is wonderful and super helpful.
