30s Pleated Shorts in tan by The House of Foxy

I have been living in these 1930s Pleated Shorts in tan by The House of Foxy this summer! They are one of those vintage items that even modern dressing folks will want to add to their wardrobes. They can be paired with all of my blouses – from Elise Design, The House of Foxy, and Freddies of Pinewood, to more ‘modern with a vintage twist’ brands like Princess Highway and Dangerfield. They are very well made as you’d expect from HoF, incredibly comfortable even on the hottest of Melbourne days, and provide a little bit of stretch if you’re in between sizes. I was a little worried the size 8 would be too short on me to look accurately 1930s (I’m 174cm for reference), but they turned out to period-perfect in length. I am hoping they keep rolling out the colours as the UK heads into their summer, as I would love to purchase more – I have just received the red and khaki pair (currently available on their site), and perhaps a pastel blue? Their new warm taupe fabric? A deep chocolate brown? Fingers crossed!

A quick note on my newly acquired khaki pair – they are an inch shorter than both my original tan pair and the new red pair I received in the same order. The khaki pair is also slightly smaller (maybe half an inch) in the waist. I’m not sure if this is simply a one-off error, if it is smaller for all size 8 in this colour or if the new batch of khaki shorts are running to different sizing. Fortunately, there is stretch and I am able to still wear them. The shorter length does take this pair into ‘trying to look like a schoolgirl’ territory (to borrow my friend’s description), so I’ll just have to be careful with the styling! Again, I’m not sure if this is true for all of the khaki pleated shorts, so perhaps contact the lovely team at The House of Foxy if you are unsure of sizes. Red gallery photos to come.

Overall, these 1930s Pleated Shorts are a great midsummer alternative if you’re a trousers gal like me in the cooler months. High-waisted, practical, comfortable and far more pleasant on a scorching 40 degree summer day! They are now stocked by Call Me Valerie for those vintage enthusiasts currently struggling through our Australian summer.
