These reproduction dogtooth Katharine Trousers are my absolute vintage dream come true! I have wanted a pair of old-Hollywood 1940s style slacks in this look for so long, and Vivien of Holloway has brought my dreams to life! These dogtooth Katharines came in three colours – beige, grey and a rich red – with new colourways being added now and then to their range. I think I am going to have to add them all to my wardrobe when they appear on the Vivien of Holloway Official Buy Swap Sell Facebook group pre-loved! The fabric is soft and thick and will be perfect for the coming winter. This is my third pair of Katharines, and like my second pair I opted for a 24″ (cinched in) waist. They are the perfect size for me and my body shape, and the waist is down to the millimetre the same fit as my previous pair.
Vivien of Holloway also offer solid colour wool Katharine Trousers – including this gorgeous charcoal wool pair they invited me to try with their rosewood Slash Neck Top. The speckled wool fabric maintains its structured appearance more than the soft fabrics, for a neat, tailored, professional silhouette. There is no give in the wool fabric, so be sure to check the sizing information on the website carefully, or get in contact with Viv and the team if you’re still unsure.
Vivien also sent me her Ginger Dogtooth Katharines from Autumn/Winter 2022, which are absolutely heavenly! I was losing my little pumpkin-spiced mind over them when they were released – an autumnal tri-coloured wool mix fabric that is the stuff of tweedy dreams. The fabric provides a tiny bit more stretch than the speckled wool pair above over time. They were quite tight initially and I was concerned they ran small, but after two wears they have moulded comfortably to my waist, and they’ve become a stand-out pair for Autumn – pictured below with Vivien of Holloway’s Jenny cardigan in barley.
One thing I really love about these Katharine Trousers is with each pair I buy my outfit options multiply enormously, as nearly every blouse I own can be interchanged with each of my (now several) pairs. The silhouette created by the trousers is so iconic you really can’t go wrong pairing them with slightly more modern style tops from thrifting adventures or brands like Princess Highway. Whether you are an established vintage dame looking to explore 1940s slacks or a newcomer looking to start your vintage wardrobe, you should definitely consider introducing a pair (or three) of Katharines.
