Double Trouble Dress

The Double Trouble Dress in cinnamon crepe by Emmy Design Sweden

I fell in love with this dress while reading Tara Moss’ new novel Dead Man’s Switch (or The War Widow in the US). Moss’ description of her fierce femme fatale Billie Walker had me craving a wartime spy-worthy dress to haunt Melbourne coffee houses and laneways in. Emmy Design Sweden’s appropriately named Double Trouble Dress from their Autumn / Winter 2017 collection was an obvious choice – a late 1930s style evening dress in a deep cinnamon crepe with a sweetheart neckline with 3/4 length sleeves, a-line skirt, peplum detail and hidden pockets – let the sleuthing begin!

It’s gorgeous, I love it, what more can I say? I love the authentic 1930s detailing throughout this dress. I love the neckline – especially as it shows Evelyn off so perfectly! It is a tiny bit shorter in the leg than I was hoping, but that’s understandable given I was between sizes and opted for the smaller option. I still plan on getting so much wear out of this dress, I am utterly infatuated.

I haven’t been able to take any full-length photos yet with the COVID-19 situation, but I wanted to put this dress up in time for Emmy Design Sweden’s end of season sale. These quick photos were taken while I was doing another shoot, just after the dress arrived, so it hadn’t been steamed. Apologies!

When Emmy announced their previous sale, I’d just spent a small fortune on my quarterly Neurology treatment (did you know BOTOX has non-cosmetic uses? Well you should) and expressed my sadness at being unable to take advantage of the discounted price on Instagram. I was contacted by Melbourne stockist Call Me Valerie who very generously offered to add it to her wholesale delivery via a ‘Special Order’. The Special Order gave me enough time to save up for the dress, saved me money on shipping costs and Valerie was kind enough to factor in the sale discount.
