40s Yoke Long Sleeve Blouse in antique by The House of Foxy.
If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you may have noticed that I wear this blouse often. The colour – antique – is absolutely gorgeous and adds an old-world warmth to every outfit. I am obsessed with it. I feel like I’m living my best 13-year-old Pirates of the Caribbean fan-fiction writing life in this blouse. It also works wonders with my pale, sensitive skin tone. I regret not purchasing every item available in this colour when they released it, it is so heavenly.
There aren’t that many colour options in this blouse available these days, as House of Foxy have changed the design of their long sleeve blouse to match their short sleeved ’40s Shirt Blouses’ – the main differences being the collar style, moving the gathers on the front to the shoulder yoke rather than just above the bust, and switching to authentic bishop sleeves.
The new style of blouse is also beautiful – I own both short sleeved and long sleeved versions and adore them. However, in my experience as a small-busted gal I have to say this particular cut would be my preference out of the two – the gathering in this design helps stop my small chest area disappearing completely in the billowy fabric, and dare I say even accentuates it a little!
The billowy sleeves are the perfect length for my long arms, which in the past has been a real challenge for me both with modern and reproduction clothing. The collar isn’t as large as their other ’40s Shirt Blouse’ designs, but it is still large enough to be pinned up if you prefer not to have the open collar look or wish to wear a necktie. The effect just isn’t quite as strikingly 40s as the ’40s Shirt Blouse’ collars, so that’s something to consider if that is how you normally wear these types of blouses.
