Poppy Blouse

Blouse: Seamstress of Bloomsbury | Skirt: House of Foxy | Full Outfit from: Call Me Valerie

Poppy Blouse in wine by The Seamstress of Bloomsbury from Call Me Valerie.

The Poppy Blouses by UK brand Seamstress of Bloomsbury recreate a classic 1940s style bursting with authentic details – including billowy bishop sleeves, revere collar, and even subtle shoulder pads giving a slightly stronger, more angular look to the shoulders. They are made using Seamstress of Bloomsbury’s signature authentic natural crepe de cine fabric, and are available in a wide range of colours and prints. They also have a short sleeve version for the warmer months with the same style of collar, and I have been waiting keenly for my size to be restocked – like many reproduction staple separates they sell out very quickly!

As always with long sleeved clothing, I had everything crossed hoping that the sleeves would be long enough for me. No need to worry though, they certainly are generous in length and I am one very happy long-limbed customer! Hooray freedom of movement!

I own the Poppy Blouse in cream, red, wine, vintage green, and brown floral (it has little fairies / ballerinas in the print so it’s a hit with the tiny humans) because why not when a reproduction piece this good is so reasonably priced?

There’s also a pussy bow long sleeve variation in the same colours called the Eva Blouse if that is more your style (I wear mine with my Iona Waistcoats as pictured below), as well as short sleeve versions of both Poppy and Eva blouses for the warmer months.

The Poppy Blouse is more fitted in the body than House of Foxy’s Yoke & 40s Long Sleeve Shirt Blouses, and the Size 8 looks like it has been tailored to my proportions, hugging my waist and removing that lumpy look of bunched-up fabric when wearing trousers. It makes creating elegant 1940s outfits quick and easy, as it pairs perfectly with high waisted trousers and skirts creating so many outfit possibilities if you collect separates. Dress it up or down by adding your unique taste in outerwear, hats / berets, belts, shoes and other accessories and you have an effortless everyday vintage aesthetic.

Australia’s Seamstress of Bloomsbury stockist Call Me Valerie currently stocks the Poppy Blouses online, but if your size or preferred colour is not available you can contact Valerie and enquire about placing a Special Order. I placed a Special Order for these blouses with Call Me Valerie and within two weeks they were hanging in my wardrobe.
