The Fair-est Cardigan in burgundy multi by Emmy Design Sweden.

You’ve no doubt heard vintage enthusiasts rave about the knitwear from Emmy Design Sweden. Their Ice Skater and Fair Isle cardigans have become almost like club jackets amongst both reproduction vintage and true vintage lovers. The authentic silhouette, dreamy colour palettes and extremely high quality of these 100% wool knits have seen them become must-have garments for those who love 1930s and 1940s styling.

I have always loved Scandinavian and Germanic aesthetics. I grew up near a large chalet building called ‘Black Forest Hill’, which I don’t quite know how to describe but essentially it was an indoor marketplace in ‘middle of nowhere’ country Queensland, Australia that sold everything from authentic German grandfather clocks & cuckoo clocks to Swedish fabrics, dolls, traditional Scandinavian Christmas decorations, and clothing. I loved it there. To this day I have absolutely no clue what it was doing there, but I loved it there.

So when I discovered Emmy Design Sweden about two years ago, I became slightly (fanatically) obsessed with their clothing and the rich culture and traditions the garments evoked. My heritage is Irish, Scottish and German (I think?), so when I was finally able to add an Emmy piece to my wardrobe, I went straight for this burgundy knit with a Scottish fair isle style pattern. It is so stunning, it really has to be seen in person to be fully appreciated. The thick wool is deliciously soft and breathable, making the cooler months far more pleasant.

The cardigan’s slightly puffed sleeves, nipped-in cropped waist and long sleeves create a 1930s silhouette I adore. I am blown away that these sleeves are not just ‘long enough’ but comfortably long. This is probably the only cardigan I had owned that had enough length in the arms to snuggly cover my wrists! Thank you Emmy!! I also love the design of the v-neck – it’s rounded, so however high or low you want to button it, it looks like it is sitting exactly where it was designed to sit.

I really can’t recommend this cardigan highly enough. It is available in a wide range of colour options, so you’ll be sure to find one that suits your wardrobe. Also – and as an Australian I love this so much – there are adorable short-sleeved knit top versions to match! Summer friendly fairisles for the festive season? Yes please! They’re also great in the colder months for transitioning out of icy winds and into cosy heated homes. So good.

Be sure to also have a look at their signature Ice Skater Cardigans. All of their knits are immensely popular, so if you see one you like don’t wait too long or your size might be snapped up!
