Denim Jacket in Chocolate by Vivien of Holloway.
I know I’m not alone when I say cropped jackets are one of the first pieces that drew me to the world of vintage. Gone are the days of awkward, restrictive modern jackets that hit me in all the wrong places and just never fit quite right. Hello practical yet beautiful high-quality 1940s & 1950s inspired jackets that cut classic, flattering silhouettes and won’t be out of fashion next month! Whether you’re a vintage lover or a modern dresser searching for more flattering cropped pieces to add to your wardrobe, I think you’re going to love this piece from Vivien of Holloway…
From their Deluxe range, this jacket is a casual Western style design in a soft, lightweight chocolate denim with cream contrast stitching and Vivien of Holloway branded jean buttons, including a single jean button closure on each sleeve cuff and two functional breast pockets. The jacket is cropped to the natural waist to suit high-waisted vintage style trousers and skirts. I love the relaxed look of the sleeves rolled up to the elbows exposing the lighter underside of the denim. It also compliments the pocket detail & trouser turn-up on the matching Chocolate Denim Pinafore Trousers, for an outfit brimming with double denim deliciousness.
The jacket’s puffed 1950s cut is designed to nip in and flatter the natural waist whilst not restricting movement in the arms and shoulders. If I was a 1950s doll or modern dresser after that waist hugging cropped style I would have opted for a size Small. As my style is heavily 1940s influenced I wanted to try a slightly oversized, casual ‘men’s bomber jacket’ look of women’s wartime workwear. I sized up to a Medium and am really pleased with the resulting laid back Land Army aesthetic. It is adorable. Sizing up to a Medium will also allow me to wear thick, chunky 1940s style knitwear underneath when it’s extra chilly.
This denim jacket will also look gorgeous with my Katharine Trousers, various button-up collared 1940s workwear blouses, dungarees & 40s jeans. Perhaps even with 30s sport shorts? I wonder… I’m looking forward to trying a range of fun new outfit combinations over spring and summer.
Whatever your personal style prefers – ‘red lipstick & curls’ land army, mid-century bad girl or a more modern aesthetic – this temporally versatile jacket has you covered!
