Slash Neck Top in Rosewood by Vivien of Holloway

Another long winter at home required clothing that was cosy and suitable for lounging around the house, following the sunshine from room to room in sync with the neighbourhood cat sun-baking outside… As chronically ill folks have known for years and everyone has come to realise more recently, extended periods of time cooped up at home in grey tracksuit pants and ‘daggy’ sweats … well, the novelty wears off, and you start to feel a bit gross and removed from your vibrant, stylish self.

We need that morale boost that comes with wearing clothes that make us feel uplifted and more like our ‘old self’ at a time when we must accept the reality that so many of the activities (people, places etc) that make us feel most ‘at home’ in ourselves are, in fact, not physically ‘at home’ with us at all. I know the nights of dancing with friends and lovely strangers till dawn will return in time, and wearing comfortable, cosy vintage pieces fit for the dance floor and the couch alike help keep that future within reach. Where has this deliciously soft Slash Neck Top been all my Pasty Sick Girl life??

This Slash Neck Top from Vivien of Holloway features 3/4 length sleeves in a soft jersey fabric with plenty of cosy stretch. It feels like a calming pyjama top but looks elegant, and oozes effortless sophistication. I opted for a size Small, which Vivien of Holloway’s size chart recommends for my measurements, and the fit is perfect. I am beyond pleased with the look and feel of this top.

I didn’t have much in the way of non-button-up collared blouses in my vintage wardrobe (I had one), and as soon as I tried this rosewood Slash Neck Top I was immediately fighting the urge to add a bunch more colourways to wear with my collection of 40s trousers and slacks. As with all Vivien of Holloway’s pieces, there are endless colours to suit your preferred aesthetics, as well as different fabric types to see you comfortably from season to season. There are also variations on this classic Slash Neck style – including a cap sleeve version (pictured below) as well as a new funnel neck style.

I’m currently eyeing off the Slash Necks in all of the autumnal hues and oh-my-gosh the tartan and tweed!!!
