40s Americana Button Jacket in Shetland Brown by The House of Foxy.
I love these Americana jackets – they have that undeniably iconic silhouette of American wartime fashion, adding a distinctive 40s feel to any outfit. The wool blend fabric keeps me cosy between seasons, and the design is roomy enough to wear a cropped wool knit underneath in Winter. It features two functional breast pockets, is fully lined and has a little padding in the shoulders to create a stronger, more angular look popular in the 1940s.
The cut of the jacket nips in perfectly at my waist and is comfortably spacious in the bust area. They come in a variety of colours, as well as a button version and zip version. The one downside I had with these stunning jackets is the sleeve length. I have quite long limbs and am underweight for my height, so my first Size 8 jacket is a size that fits my frame but is slightly short in the arms. I usually roll the cuffs up to make this more comfortable and less noticeable, and doesn’t bother me all that much. The Size 10 (Shetland Brown) is a perfect length in the arms and still has that beautiful nipped-in waist silhouette, with a slightly oversized bomber jacket look in the chest.
The lighter coloured jacket is pre-loved and was purchased from 1940s ‘land army’ style icon Call Me Lucille through Instagram. I had already purchased another Americana jacket from her – the burgundy zip version – and lived in it the previous winter. When I saw she was selling this beauty I jumped at it and fortunately got to it before it sold!
I’m starting to realise that I could never have enough of these Americana jackets, and am very lucky to have found an Australian House of Foxy stockist Call Me Valerie who has them available for purchase via her website or instagram DM.
