Crop Cardigan in Burgundy by Elise Design.
Named simply ‘Crop Cardigan’, this hand-knitted cropped cardigan in a deep plum wool/acrylic blend from vintage inspired Australian designer Elise Design is a beautiful addition to my Autumn/Winter wardrobe.The thick cable knit pattern is beautiful and feels authentically 1940s, and the rich, dark shade of plum is just gorgeous – perfect for cosy Autumn looks. It is extremely well made, and the hand-knitted texture and nostalgic silhouette makes me feel like I’m wearing true vintage made with love by a friend in the 40s rather than a reproduction piece.
The cardigan is very warm, though it doesn’t breathe quite as well as my 100% wool knits. The sleeves are not ‘puffed’ like the majority of my 30s/40s reproduction knitwear, so if you aren’t too keen on the puffed shoulder look this cardigan is an option to explore! The sleeves hug my arms, which I personally prefer to the looser arms of my Emmy Design Sweden knitwear, though the arms are not as long as Emmy’s knits.
The cardigan features a round crew neck design which is quite snug on me, so I could potentially have sized up to a Size 10. If you’re unsure about sizes, I would probably recommend sizing up or checking with the team at Elise Design for their advice on your particular sizing. I am a Size 6 in Elise Design dresses, and the Size 8 or Size 10 would work for me in this knit – a Size 6 would definitely have been too small for me.

I have cardigans from previous years which keep me nice and cosy through the Melbourne winters. If you’re in Sydney, they usually stock more options in their brick and mortar stores, as they’re so popular, they go like hotcakes.
This cardigan will pair beautifully with my khaki or rust coloured 1940s style skirts, topped with a brown Americana Jacket and brown lace-up boots – a dreamy and authentic Autumn outfit!
