About Brighton Bacall

Welcome to Brighton Bacall! I’m Caity – a vintage style loving, photography obsessed camera nerd from Melbourne, Australia, living with multiple chronic illnesses & an ‘invisible’ disability.

Beginnings of Brighton Bacall

I started my Brighton Bacall Instagram account in January 2018 as an outlet for me to document my ‘good days’ once my health reached a point where I no longer had much quality of life. A lover of vintage style for many years, I began dressing in reproduction vintage on my rare good days to perk myself up. I documented my outfits on a completely private Instagram account so I could look back on my bedridden days and remember that, even if it felt like I would never feel better, I would, and I would still have days where I would be able to enjoy life.

Before I became too ill to work I was a keen photographer working in the camera department in the film and television industry, and taking and editing my own photos again helped to keep my morale up enormously while stuck in bed. As the serotonin started flowing again and my confidence dressing vintage grew, I opened up my Instagram account and began connecting with other lovers of vintage style around the world, hiding my chronic illnesses as a way of separating my two worlds – the Pasty Sick Girl and Brighton Bacall. Now, my Instagram account is a happy mixture of both – a place to document my outfits and share my love of vintage style and photography, but also a place where I can share the realities of my life for those interested in reading about it.

Brighton Bacall Blog & Wardrobe Gallery

My website is an expansion on this idea, allowing me to post higher resolution images and searchable outfits, and talk more in-depth about my vintage life and the ‘Behind the Scenes’ of the highlight reel that is Instagram. Here you’ll find outfit photos, reproduction vintage reviews, and also blog posts about my life with chronic illnesses.

Structured a little differently to other fashion & lifestyle blogs, the Wardrobe Gallery is the focus of Brighton Bacall. It’s a virtual wardrobe of all my reproduction vintage pieces, designed to be an easy way to find specific items or looks you are interested in. Curate the gallery to show only the clothing category you are looking for, the brand you are interested in, season or even pieces for casual, ‘decked out’ or evening wear.

Select an item in the Gallery to read my review and personal thoughts, sizing information with measurements, and also view a style gallery of all my outfit photos to date that feature that particular item. I’ll continue to update wardrobe pages with more outfit photos and feedback, so you can check back to see new styling ideas, colour options and updates on how the garments are holding up over time! If a design is no longer made by the brand, I’ll also give you some ideas of where to find them pre-loved.

Brand Ambassador, Photographer & Content Creator

Brands featured in the Wardrobe menu have been kind enough to support my work through collaborations, hiring my services for content creation or gifting pieces in exchange for honest reviews or images. Thank you to these incredible designers and small businesses for supporting chronically ill & disabled creators like myself:
